Sanding and repairing..

We flipped the boat upside down so we can replace the rods that keep the boat together. Meanwhile we are still sanding and burning. There is evidence of at least 5 layers of different paint on the hall.

Now that the wood is uncovered we can see where we need to repair.

Burning and cleaning..

The rail and some more rotten wood were taken off. After that we started to burn off old paint from the hall.

 

An experienced and retired wooden boat carpenter came over to answer some of our questions and take a look at the boat. He advised us to replace some specific timber planks and replace them. 

That's the reason we had to take it off. These bolt tighten the boats bottom and hold a plank that secures the boat from the engines vibration. As the carpenter said " The stronger the plank, the stonger the boat..".  

2009 reconstruction works - the deck and rail have to go..

The front deck (constructed on top of the old one at 2004) was not in a very bad condition, but the original one underneath it had some evidence of rot. The rail was partially broken and rotten also. We decided to strip the boat to a bare minimum.

 

The rail needs more work, probably next weekend..

2009 reconstruction works - the engine has to go..

The engine is a 2 stroke, 12hp, diesel, italian made RUGGERINI. Unfortunately there is no way to make it sea worthy again due to major gear problems.

 

Now since the engine is gone, we had to take out its base. After of 27 years its base had rot and all of its bolts and nail had rusted. Anything we couldn't unscrew we cut. The pieces of wood and metal will be used as guidelines for new ones.

2005 restoration works

2005 was the year that the boat had its final body work done. We changed colour from white to navy blue and finished the interiors. Unfortunately the engine had a lot of problems. The boat's speed was decreasing from 4,5 nm/h to 1,5 nm/h. The engine was dismantled cleaned and repaired, but as it seemed the problem was fatal.

The boat as we bought it at 2004
